Developing Academic Arguments (Free Webinar)
February 15, 2023 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm EST
Free
This webinar is presented in partnership with our sister company, the Academic Writing Center.
An argument is a key feature of academic writing. Academic arguments consist of a main idea or “claim” and evidence to support the claim. Developing an academic argument includes a search of the literature to familiarize yourself with arguments made by other researchers in your field of study. This step is critical for addressing counterarguments and objections. Otherwise, your argument may be perceived as biased and not credible. In this highly practical webinar, Dr. Jessica Parker helps you understand the key components of an academic argument and how to develop your argument.
In this free webinar, you will learn:
- the foundational structure of an academic argument;
- the difference between a simple claim and a complex claim;
- how to develop a counterargument; and
- argumentative writing methods.
Wednesday, February 15th, 12:30–1:30 p.m. Eastern
You will receive a ZOOM link after registering.
The webinar will be recorded for those who cannot attend.
